Free Write-Week 2

I'm not very good at expanding. I tend to just state what I want to say. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

The Perfect Day

Breakfast in bed
My favorite blueberry pancakes
Made just for me

Hand in hand
As we ride across the open field
The sunshine and fresh air bring a smile to my face

A picnic by the creek
Where we share our first kiss

A night under the stars
A fire to roast smores
Ends the perfect day

Free Write-Week 2

Tonight I was sitting outside by the fire staring up at the stars when questions began filling my mind. Where did the stars come from? Why did God make them? What is there purpose? Where do they go during the day? Do they move or are they permanently fixated in one spot? How would I describe a star? (bright, magnificent, beautiful, illuminating)? What can you compare a star to? A star as bright as the love in your eyes? A shooting star falling from the heavens appears as falling water cascades over a mountain waterfall. The stars are so beautiful they are almost indescribable. They light the night sky so that lost travelers can find their way. They led the wise men on their journey to Jesus. Stars are a guide, a symbol, a promise, hope, and a reminder.

Reading Response-Week 2

In the reading, they talk about having not having a preconcieved notion of what you want to write about. They suggest the best method is just to sit down and write whatever comes into your head. I have a really hard time just sitting and writing. I almost always have a notion of what I want to write about or how I want it to sound like. Sometimes I get very frustrated because what I thought I wanted to write about doesn't come out the way I wantd it to. I am going to try just freewriting without thinking about it to much.

Classmate Response-Week 2

Joshua West-Baby Poem

I really liked the last two lines of this poem-
"The beast is silenced and I am secured in her impermeable grasp. Peace and serenity wash over as I lie content in my victory."

I would suggest not using a religious comparison. That to me seems a little posey. Maybe if it is like a war to get the baby to be quiet. I work at a daycare and I know what a struggle is it to get a child to be happy. I think it woud be interesting to see another comparison used that would allow the baby to be the victor in the end.

Junkyard Quotes-Week 2

1. My eyes are blue like the ocean. Your on vacation everytime you look in them-Ben

2. Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It's perfect when it arrives and puts itself in our hands. It hopes we've learned something from yesterday-John Wayne

3. It is only in the country that we can get to know a person or a book-Cyril Connely

4. I love to think of nature as an unlimited broadcasting station, through which God speaks to us every hour, if we will only tune in-George Washington Carver

5. How complex simplicity can be-unknown

Reading Response-Week 2

I try to keep a notebook or paper with me at all times. I find myself in the strangest places and this idea or thought will hit me and I just have to write it down that instant. In chapter one it talks about improving your writing and I think writing on a constant basis and having material to look back on helps. I will write something down and a couple weeks later look back over it and think of ways to improve it or add to it. I prefer the flexibility of of formlessness. It allows me to write whatever I want and however I want to write it. I don't have to curve the creativity when I can be flexible.

Classmate Response (Lucas's poem)

I really enjoyed Lucas's Limerick (even though technically a limerick is supposed to be 5 lines). It is short, witty, and to the point. I think if it followed the rhyme scheme it might be a little better, but its better than trying to force a rhyme. Even the title is witty.

Precious Baby (#2 Free write)

Tiny chubby hands
Grab hold of my nose
Gooey sticky kisses on my cheek
Tooth grin that smiles up at me
Innocent eyes pierce my soul
Precious baby-a gift from God

I'm From the South (#1 Free write)

I'm from the South
Where we run barefoot on a hot summer day
Where we make homemade ice cream and sweet watermelon wine
Where trucks are made for playing in the Georgia clay
Where nights are spent around campfires
Roasting marshmallows and playing a tune

I'm from the South
Where honeysuckle sweetens the summer air
Where holidays are spent with family
Where a single snowflake causes wide spread panic
Where God is at the foundation of the family
